As of August 2011, Coastview Aquaponics is currently operating three aquaponic systems on our farm, as well as several Barrel Systems for display of the different turn-key systems we offer for sale. We have roughly 1000+ square feet of grow space. Our systems began as deep water raft based systems and have evolved with the integration of media beds and other hydroponic techniques.
Our first system was built on lava rock terraces to utilize our limited flat space in that area. System #1 was originally built as a system to feed our family, with one 12 ft. long trough. Chris already had the intention of adding additional grow beds, so this system was built with a 400 gallon fish tank. Originally there were three troughs - ranging from 12 ft. -20 ft. in length, each on its own terrace. We have recently removed one deep water trough and added numerous gravel beds, vertical towers and NFT channels. This system has every viable aquaponic growing technique combined into one system.
System #2 is our commercial size system. Consisting of a 1000 gallon ferro-cement fish tank, a clarifier, two gravel beds as filters before the four 40 ft. long deep water troughs and a sump tank.
System #3 is our smallest! A working demonstration system utilized for teaching purposes. A 64 sq.ft. Friendly Aquaponics Micro System, consisting of two 8 ft. long troughs and a 150 gallon fish tank.
